It is an easy walk from the convention center or Nationwide Arena district to the south. The Short North is a densely-populated commercial and residential district, with especially high pedestrian use during its monthly "Gallery Hop" and other local and downtown events. The Short North has been described as "colorful", "offbeat", and "trendy". This column, written before social distancing went into effect, is intended for future suggestion. A city that has not one but two gayborhoods? That would be Columbus, Ohio, another millennial magnet and hangout for the urban hipsters.
As the 15th largest city in the nation, Columbus is home to a vibrant gay community, much of which congregate in the Short North and Clintonville neighborhoods. The Short North has a number of gay pubs, art galleries, popular gay and lesbian center, nightclubs, coffee shops and an annual gay and lesbian theater festival in September. It's gay pride all year round with businesses vying for the gay dollar by donning the famous rainbow flag. Clintonville is more of the lesbian hangout.
